Description

F/V “MISS PEGGY” is an all-welded steel raked bow, hard chined, raked stern, single screw ocean fishing vessel. Vessel's shell noted constructed of approximately 1/4" thick steel plate from the chine to the railings and approximately 3/8” thick steel plate from the chine to the keel. Plate is strengthened by 1/4" x 3" steel transverse and longitudinal bar stock on average 24” centers. Hull is further strengthened by the placement of three (3) x transverse bulkheads, forming 4 x non-watertight compartments. Vessel’s hull is segregated into the following compartments: Fore peak tank, storage compartment, machinery spaces with port and starboard fuel tanks, fish hold, void tanks, and lazarette. Main deck house noted fabricated of steel configured with a rounded front housing a slightly raised pilot house accessed from galley/berthing area, via a short stair, and from port/starboard wooden doors. Aft and down from pilot house is a galley/berthing area with small head aft on centerline. Storage compartment and engine room are accessed from main deck by a wooden lift-out hatch immediately aft of pilot house deck on centerline. The vessel underbody is hard-chined with moderate deadrise forward flattening to near 0 degrees aft. A modified cutaway keel houses a propeller aperture with a 4-blade bronze propeller. The keel is supported by bracing port and starboard. A spade-type steel plate rudder is supported by a rudder shoe and bearing in the keel.

Engine Room

This compartment is positioned approximately midships and extends 15’ 6” from #2 bulkhead to #3 bulkhead or 34’ 2” from stem and is accessed through a cutout in the #2 bulkhead on the portside. The compartment is fitted with integral port and starboard steel fuel tanks with approximately 2000 gallons capacity each. The tanks have baffles at 5’ intervals creating three compartments. Tanks are accessed through 22” x 22” flanged manholes located aft. Port tank had recently been cleaned, painted and was open for inspection. Tank interior was in good condition. Fuel service to main engine and genset at time of survey was available from the starboard tank only, with ball type closure valve at tank bottom with four-way T-valve connecting main engine and genset fuel lines and sight tube. Port tank has valved penetrations at lower aft and midline but no fuel line connections. Tanks are filled and vented to main side decks through 3” standpipes with vents welded into side of same. Genset is installed athwartships immediately aft of #2 or forward engine bulkhead. Main engine is mounted immediately behind genset on centerline.

Fish Hold

The fish hold compartment is located immediately aft of the engine compartment and is accessed through a 62” x 30” steel hatch with a raised coaming and a 2’ x 2’ access scuttle with 3.5” raised coaming and aluminum cover. This compartment measures approximately 15’ longitudinally by 15’ 6” athwartships with approximately 42” of headroom. A Trenton refrigeration unit is mounted to the overhead at the forward bulkhead. The deck is supported by a wooden gridwork topped with sheet foam insulation and ¾” plywood. The compartment overhead, bulkheads and side shell are covered with blown foam insulation. The shaft alley and stuffing box are accessed in this compartment through a lift-out plywood insert.

Decks

Decks are constructed of welded ¼” mild plate steel supported by 1/4" x 3" steel transverse and longitudinal bar stock on average 24” centers. Decks were recoated during refit.. Gunwales are ¼” plate steel averaging 24” to 28” high with 2” SS pipe cap rails. Aft deck has three (3) scuppers p/s. Side deck railings are 2” SS pipe at 38”. Decks inside of cabin were overlayed with waterproof particle board and a floating laminate floor. Aft deck working area measures approximately 238 sq. ft.

Superstructure

Superstructure is constructed of welded ¼” mild plate steel. Raised pilot house has rounded front with steel brow, nine (9) fixed windows, two (2) wooden doors p/s and three (4) oblong fixed windows in the overhead aft. Interior is sheathed in finished beadboard paneling. Aft cabin has steel awning on side decks supported by diagonal steel pipe stanchions, two wooden doors p/s with fixed windows. Cabin windows include three (3) diagonal 24” x 43” fixed plexiglass, one (1) diagonal 24” x 43” safety glass (opening) and four rectangular 25” x 23” fixed plexiglass in aft bulkhead. Windows are trimmed in teak. Cabin interior is sheathed in finished beadboard paneling.

Accomodations

The main cabin immediately aft of pilot house contains a galley/berthing area. The galley to starboard has a double SS sink with goose neck faucet with 78 inches of composite countertop with drawers and cabinet storage underneath. To aft their are 2 bunks to port and 2 bunks to starboard with a 41 in by 24 head inbetween at centerline. No current plumbing to head.
