IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A VERY WELL APPOINTED, AFFORDABLE, WELL MAINTAINED CIRCUMNAVIGATING VESSEL, THIS IS IT!

Last chance to see this boat in the water. The boat goes on the hard May 15th, Make appointment to see her today!!

Don’t let the hull age fool you, this boat went through a complete 4-Year refit/rebuild/repower beginning in 1999. She used to be a standard Oceanis 500 with 5 beds and 5 heads. She came out of the professional South Texas Yacht Service yard in 2003 as a reconfigured 2 bed, 2 ½ head sailing dream. For the past 11 years she has been owned/operated and maintained (with even further upgrades!) by a retired submarine engineer who is also a pleasure pilot. Safety and maintenance has been meticulous and well documented.

There are too many upgrades to list them all, but some of the most notable are:

  • Repowered with Westerbeke, naturally aspirated 90hp engine in 2000, top end completed in 2010
  • Upgraded to a Westerbeke 15.5kw generator with separated exhaust system which makes it super quiet! (2000)

  • All sole boards removed and completely refurbished (2000)
  • Cockpit rebuilt with Polysulfide seats (2000)
  • An engineers dream of a mechanical room with workbench, tool storage and sub panel
  • All raw water pumps are industrial grade Oberdorf’s, Fresh water pumps are Paragon Sr.
  • (4) Sea strainers are bronze
  • Laundry room
  • 6’5” Headroom
  • A huge forward master stateroom with Queen berth, 2 large cedar lined hanging lockers and lots of storage and space
  • Separate large shower with seat (starboard), separate head in master (port)
  • King sized bed in guest stateroom
  • AC units: Chilled water A/C’s - 2 compressors, 4 air handlers
  • Gunert refrigeration system (3 compressors)
  • All new electronics, except for autohelm, which works perfectly (2021-2023)
  • Upgraded rod rigging (2001) with exposed chain plates for easy inspection
  • Custom stainless steel cored rudder (2004)
  • Original crew quarters converted to huge forward hold/sail locker (2002)
  • New/additional crash bulkhead between master and sail locker (2002)
  • New sails (2015-2017)
  • New port lights and hatches (2015-2020)

Vessel Walkthrough

The project that made CORSAIR the boat she is today revolved around creating a very sea worthy vessel with easy sail handling systems that had a good turn of speed, as well as comfortable accommodations for extended cruising.

Starting on the forward deck, the original crews quarters was reworked to create a huge sail storage room. It is entered thru a large deck hatch then stainless steel ladder. There is plenty of room to walk around in and store the vessel's equipment in an orderly fashion. There are two "hammocks" for sail storage, a built-in dinghy O/B engine mount for storing, multiple hangers for dock lines, etc. This area has its own separate bilge pump. There is an easily rigged davit stored here and can be positioned port or starboard to help get heavy gear up to the deck. At the aft end of the forepeak, separating it from the living quarters, is a proper watertight/crash bulkhead.

Going aft, via the wide walkable deck to the spacious cockpit with dual helms, new electronics, new seat cushions (2023) covered with bimini and dodger with esinglass that is in good condition. There is a lot of storage under the seating and even a refrigerated lazeret locker! On the center line of the cockpit is a long table that has folding sides that creates a nice outside dining area. Lots of cup holders. There are new electronics (2023).

Going below deck is easy via a wide set of companionway steps that are safe to negotiate in all sea conditions. There are two sets of companionway closures, one with ventilation, one solid. Both covered with a large, wide, easy to slide see through cover.

Once below decks, forward is a HUGE owner's stateroom. There is a Queen Pulman’s style berth to port, 2 hanging lockers and many drawers lining the starboard side (all cedar lined) There are additional lockers/cubbies forward above the berth. Aft of the berth (port) is a head with electric toilet with Elecrtasan system. To starboard is a large walk-in shower with a hinged teak bench seat.

Next aft is the main salon and galley. To port is a large dining table with seating for up to 10, arranged with "U" seating outboard and a centerline settee that has access to engine underneath. The table is mounted on hydraulic mounts so that it can be raised and lowered should additional sea berths be needed. Forward of the dining table is a holding plate Gunert freezer (accessible from both top and side) with a bar above. Aft of the dining table is an 19" Jensen television.

To starboard is the galley, separated from the dining area by an "island" with storage and microwave oven. The forward area of the galley has a Gunnert holding plate refrigerator/freezer unit (accessible from the tops and sides). Outboard of the refrigerator is a dry storage locker. There is a stainless double sink and a gimbaled Stainless Princess 3-Burner stove and oven with added grab bars and pad eyes for harness. There are many storage compartments as well.

Next aft is a custom navigation station with a complete array of new electronics with easy access to well labeled panel wiring, the ships built in computer and storage space.

Aft of the nav station is the guest head and shower. Entry to the aft head is either from the main salon or through a private entrance from the aft stateroom to starboard.

The aft stateroom has a king sized bed, hanging locker and two large drawers inboard. There is additional shelving outboard aft of the hanging locker.

Across to the port side of the boat is a wet locker/room that houses the washer/dryer with storage under and forward of the unit. Through a sound insulated door there is access to the mechanical/storage room. This space is fully sound insulated and houses the generator in its sound box, air conditioner chillers compressors (2), water maker and refrigeration compressors (3) as well as other ship systems equipment. There is a work bench outboard with spare parts storage underneath, a mounted vice, and more. This is the space one always wished they had on a boat. Everything on the boat is well laid out and well labeled. There are extensive documentation and maintenance logs. The mechanics and systems are well maintained and functioning. The boat is in great condition. There are a few cosmetic blemishes here and there, but overall, she is a dry, very well maintained and beautifully laid out vessel that cruises very comfortably.

Broker's Comments

This boat must be listed as a 1990 Beneteau Oceanis 500, but it looks, feels and sails and equipped more like a hand-built boat in a professional yard. Anyone in the engineering field, pilot, professional captain, etc., will see that this boat is laid out and equipped with long term cruising/circumnavigating and safety first in mind. She is a dry boat. No leaks. There are a few small spots that need some cosmetic updating, and the rigging is surpassing the 10 year mark, but with the meticulous care that has been given in the past 11 years by the current owner, who is a retired submarine engineer and pilot, the new owner of this boat will be getting one heck of a deal at this price point. There are many spare parts and extra’s aboard including, but not limited to: For engine; starter, fuel lift pump, alternator regulator. For the generator: starter, alternator, and complete remote-control panel. For the Auto pilot: linear drive assembly and complete remote-control head. There are also loads of maintenance documentation and log books.
