Design Overview

This Beneteau 50' Sense has a massive platform with a 49' LOA and 15' 11" on the beam that is carried well aft. The decks are wide and clear, with 15 flush hatches. This width is what allowed the construction of an almost catamaran-like cockpit, with an easy entry off a broad swim platform and one step up to the twin wheels. Visibility forward from the helm stations is excellent. All control lines are led aft to the cockpit via a tunnel which eliminates clutter and tripping hazards and the bow, stern and midship cleats are stout and tall to accommodate oversized docklines.

  • Life aboard the Sense 50 is divided into three areas - the easy outdoor living of the cockpit, the centralized social space of the salon/galley and the quiet cabins forward. Sleek, angular and very Euro-chic, the living space is finished in alpi fruitwood with an oak laminated cabin sole. It feels very rich and comfortable. Large hull portholes provide more light and an extensive sea view.
  • Master cabin: Island bed with marine mattress and slatted bed frame; lots of storage (up to 5 drawers, hanging lockers, etc.) and an ensuite bathroom with separate shower cubicle.
  • Guest cabin: Large double bed - 1 ensuite bathroom also used as day-time toilet. Third cabin fitted as standard with 2 bunk beds.
  • Built-in long galley. Attractive grey synthetic resin worktop. Fully concealed electrical appliances when galley is not in use (retractable worktop on gas hob, panel in front of oven).
  • Large porthole / service hatch opening onto the cockpit saloon (512 mm x 322 mm).
  • Master cabin with ensuite bathroom, a second bathroom with access from the guest cabin and day-time access.
  • Very comfortable companionway: 3 steps lead to the salon (instead of the usual 5), sloping at an angle of 45°.
  • Central furniture incorporating an extra seat for the chart table for 2 people and a retractable 32" TV on a motorized lift-system (option). Its location supports you in the galley when the boat heels.

Accommodations

Wonderful two cabin, two head interior layout with a dedicated office space where the standard third cabin would be. There is an additional, climate controlled, crew berth that can be conveniently accessed directly from the cockpit. A full beam salon and wraparound view paired with the comfortable settee and oversized galley, makes the Sense 50's interior comparable to that of a catamaran. Instead of hatch boards, an electric companionway door can adjust to any level, so the "doorway" can be as open or closed as conditions dictate. Only three steps through the gently sloped companionway connect the brilliance of life outdoors to the sophisticated interior, creating great flow of movement on board - a unique feature on a monohull.

Layout

Stepping below, you'll find a bright, comfortable, stylish space for getting out of the weather. The cabin is quite wide, thanks to the boat's substantial beam.

The galley is along the starboard side in the European style and includes a double fridge/freezer, an icemaker and a microwave oven. There is a convertible cocktail table that rises electrically and unfolds to make a large dining table. This table also conceals a recently updated television, which rises electrically to its viewing position. Even the cabin shades are powered. A nice nav table to starboard serves as a comfortable place to sit back and kick up your feet for a rest.

Moving forward, there's a sizable guest cabin with a double berth to port and a nicely sized office to starboard that can convert to another cabin when needed. The master stateroom is forward with an island queen berth, a small vanity desk and a large, ensuite head with a stall shower.

Cockpit and Deck

Boarding the Sense 50 from astern, you get the impression you are stepping onto a stage. The cockpit is, in a word, vast. The seats behind each helm station lift up and out to open the entire transom, creating an inviting terrace with a U-shaped settee to starboard and a table that can be folded and lowered to a cocktail table or made into a sun pad or bed for two. On the port side, a straight bench lifts to reveal a large storage space and an optional bunk for either adventurous children or unruly crew.

The cockpit sole lifts-up to access all the machinery. This was done by design to keep all the noise-making equipment well-away from the living areas and the space is accessed via a step ladder?there?s even room for a washing machine.

Offering the upmost in safety and performance, the Sense 50's spacious cockpit includes a dual helm and plenty of space under the sails. While at anchor, you have several options for enjoying this well-designed exterior space. There is easy access to the water, you can enjoy sitting in the U-shaped cockpit seats or you can convert the retractable table into a sun deck to lounge in comfort.

This vessel has the added arch at the transom. Adding to the overall appearance, providing a dinghy davit and place for a fun hanging seat or seat for the sunsets at your favorite anchorage.
