The 1980 Tartan 33 is a classic sailboat designed by Sparkman & Stephens, built by Tartan Marine, and known for its balance of cruising comfort and racing capability

Featuring a fractional rigged sloop with a Scheel keel, offering a moderate draft of 4.5 ft (1.39 m) for access to shallower waters without sacrificing stability.

The boat has a fiberglass hull and deck, a displacement of 10,000 lb (4,536 kg), and ballast of 4,400 lb (1,996 kg), contributing to strong seaworthiness and performance.

Key specifications include:

  • Length Overall (LOA): 33.67 ft (10.26 m)
  • Waterline Length (LWL): 28.83 ft (8.79 m)
  • Beam: 10.96 ft (3.34 m)
  • Engine: Universal 5242 diesel
  • Fuel Capacity: 26 gallons

Top Side

Wheel Steering, running rigging and lines led to the cockpit along with self tailing winch upgrades. Also electronics have been added and are modern. The traveler spans the cockpit just fore of the wheel, and it's well positioned for efficient sheeting. The fractionally rigged mast has double spreaders along with nice wide side decks with molded nonskid from the Tartan production.

Quarters/Interior

The boat is ideal for a couple or a small family! With galley to starboard as you descend the ladder. It has a large sink and, icebox (no reefer plate) is located on the port side fore of the Navigation station. The Nav station includes a good-sized chart desk. There is a quarter berth aft of the nav station. The salon includes facing settees with updated upholstery. Eight opening portholes generates exceptional cross ventilation. As you move forward the head spans the width of boat just fore of the mast with doors to both the salon and forward cabin. The head is does currently work. The forward cabin includes a roomy V berth, a large hanging locker with a couple of drawers.

Growing up in Maryland I went to Calvert Hall for High School and then matriculated over to Towson University for my undergrad. After gaining my degree, it was off to Florida seeking the sun and the sea!

While living in Jacksonville Beach, my wife & I set our sights on traveling to the Caribbean islands. Having had my origins in Maryland and sailing on the Chesapeake Bay we began a dream that now living in Florida I was finally able to realize. We bought a 38 foot sailboat at the age of 26!

Living aboard for over 6 years, we traveled back and forth between Georgetown in the Bahamas and St Petersburg, FL. We nurtured both a love for boats and for the water, only stepping away from the boating life as we grew our young family. I’ve now found a way to share my passion for boats and the freedom that they can provide.

Helping new and seasoned boaters find their way onto the water, in order to throw off the dock lines and explore the world!
