Cockpit
The large center cockpit design offers excellent protection and visibility. An easy and comfortable fit for captain and crew, with two well-placed Barient 2-speed sheet winches. A pedestal helm station supports a custom electronics console including Garmin Chart plotter, Raymarine Autopilot, and remote control for the four-speaker sound system. Also located here: the single-lever shift/throttle, engine panel, engine stop, and electric horn button. A large stainless steel wheel can be easily removed for additional cockpit spaces.
Attached to the pedestal is a custom teak fold-down table with leaves on both sides. Behind the helm is the mainsheet traveler, and the mainsheet winch. Surrounding the cockpit interior are four teak-trimmed cubbies for easy stashing of winch handles and gloves. The cockpit benches are covered with Marine Mat, and custom cockpit cushions add comfort for captain and crew. Overhead are stereo cockpit speakers powered by the BOSS 4-speaker stereo system, complete with Bluetooth connectivity, all protected by a Sunbrella Bimini.
Topside
Surrounding the center cockpit, the deck is newly coated with non-skid paint, and protected on all sides by a teak toerail that offers additional safety when heeling. Double lifelines extend around the entire deck with gates port/starboard/aft. Stainless-protected teak rub rails run fore-to-aft. The genoa tracks are also bolted to the toerail. Teak hand-holds around the companionway and cabin top fore and aft offer additional security. In addition, there is a stainless pulpit around the mast. The mast is deck-stepped, and the halyard winches are mast-mounted.
The double anchor roller and bow pulpit are graced with a custom teak bowsprit, designed to be easily removable for retouching varnish. A 45-lb Rocna Vulcan supplies the primary anchor role, with 80 ft of chain. A 45lb CQR is available as a secondary. A rope/chain electric windlass can support either anchor. Forward cleats have hawsepipes to support multiple dock lines or snubber lines.
The aft deck includes two large lazarettes port/starboard, along with stern cleats. The stern pulpit supports two bench seats with included cushions. The rear gate leads to a drop-down aluminum ladder, and a drop-down swim platform. Attached to the underside of the swim platform is a folding ladder to allow easy access to the platform. Also attached to the stern pulpit are the reinforced stainless dinghy davits with 6:1 blocks on both sides. Also located here is the electric horn, controlled from the helm station. Port side adjacent to the cockpit is the hatch for the propane tank, pressure meter and gas solenoid.
Main Cabin
Upon stepping down the solid teak ladder into the spacious salon, the interior feels warm and inviting. Settees port and starboard seat six comfortably, and the custom Corinthian Marine waterproof/removable carpeting softens even more. Headroom is approximately 6’ 3”. Cubbies on both sides with louvered doors offer ample storage. The custom settee cushions on both sides hide additional storage space. The interior is fully lighted with custom teak-rimmed LED fixtures, along with three reading lamps. A traditional brass clock and barometer grace the forward bulkhead. For entertainment purposes, a flat-panel LED smart TV is available. Portside next to the Nav station is a hatch to a small wine storage compartment.
Both settees are 72”, that could be used as berths in a pinch.
Centerline in the salon are hatches that expose the battery compartment, mast wiring and other support electronics, and the 6-gallon water heater. On either side are two small hatches exposing the various thru-hull valves and strainers.
Nav Station
Starboard-side aft of the salon, the nav station houses both 110-volt and 12-volt panels, a satellite Garmin Chart plotter, VHF radio (remote handheld can mount on pedestal) and the audio electronics: the BOSS stereo head unit and a Sirius/XM satellite receiver. The desk surface lifts up to reveal additional storage. Below the desk are mounted the battery charger and inverter, as well as a fire extinguisher.
Galley
Portside aft of the salon is the double galley sink, dishware storage, and a 3-burner propane stove/oven. An extendable chef’s faucet makes cleanup easier. The large top-opening refrigerator/freezer compartment can double as a workspace in a pinch. Three drawers offer storage for galley utensils.
Between galley and nav station is a large multi-purpose workspace ideal for the dish drainer, coffee maker, and other miscellaneous items (even tools at times!) Underneath this is the front end of the engine room, with three access hatches.
Forward cabin
Separating the salon from the forward berth is a louvered teak door. To starboard is the forward head with shower; to port is a storage locker. A V-berth with a removeable centerpiece also contains a large storage compartment underneath, and access to the chain locker forward. The berth is ~74” long. Ample drawer storage space is available, in addition to a shelf along each side of the berth.
Aft cabin
Perhaps one of the best justifications for the center cockpit: this full queen-sized berth. Storage on either side along with a clothing locker, and a private aft head with shower. A small flat-screen LED TV is available for entertainment purposes. A 9000 BTU marine AC keeps the aft cabin cool, along with two overhead hatches for ventilation.
The headroom is 6'2' in the salon, 6'2" in the guest stateroom, 6' in the guest head, 6' in the galley, 6'2" in the master stateroom and 6' in the master stateroom head.
38 Irwin Accommodations
Free Rein offers a full-beam master stateroom aft with a queen size berth and ensuite head/shower. The guest stateroom forward with an V berth. The guest head is starboard aft of the stateroom.
