We are pleased to offer this well-cared-for Sabre 362. She is in exceptional condition and is a delight to show. Cherry interior, Seafrost refrigeration, excellent electronics, Max prop, and Espar Diesel cabin heat, are just a few of the reasons this yacht is superior to similarly aged sisterships.

The Sabre 362 offers a good balance of sailing features and creature comforts that has resulted in an enduring appeal to a wide variety of sailors. It was introduced in late 1993 and should not be confused with the Sabre 36 (1984–91). The latter was designed by Sabre’s founder Roger Hewson while the former was designed by Marblehead, MA, designer Jim Taylor. At 36’ 2” length overall, the 362 is only two inches longer than her predecessor but her waterline length is more than a foot longer at 30’ 5” and her beam is nine inches wider at an even 12’. The hull shapes are quite different, particularly below the waterline, and the newer Sabre 362 has considerably more interior volume. Three different keel configurations have been offered on the Sabre 362: a keel/centerboard which draws 4’ 2” with the board up, a wing keel that draws 4’ 8”, and a deep fin keel that draws 6’ 8”. Displacement is 13,800 pounds with fin keel, 14,060 pounds with wing keel, and 14,980 pounds with centerboard.

Accommodations

Beautifully maintained 2 staterooms varnished full cherry interior with teak and holly sole accommodates up to seven when necessary. Ample natural light and ventilation via 4 large fixed ports, 6 opening ports, 2 large hatches, and 2 dorade vents. When season extending heat is desired there is Espar diesel cabin heat fitted, or simply use it to take the chill off on a damp morning. Artificial light is equally well thought out with swivel-style reading lamps at each berth/settee as well as several overhead lamps in working spaces.

Starting forward the Forward Stateroom features an ample V-berth with bin stowage and drawers underneath. Above the berth, there are ash ceilings and shelves. Aft to port is a small bureau with drawers and a hanging locker while opposite to starboard is a dressing seat with stowage under and lockers behind and a small sink & counter with H&C pressure water.

Next aft is the Main Salon featuring an L-settee to starboard and straight settee to port. The L settee can be made out into a comfortable double berth. There is stowage under the settees, behind the seat backs, and in lockers and shelves above. A large teak table with folding leaves will comfortably seat 6-8 people while dining and yet conveniently folds up to the main bulkhead when not required.

Next aft to starboard is the Galley. The large L-shaped galley features double polished Scandvik stainless steel sinks with H&C pressure water, manual fresh water, ample custom Corian counters and excellent stowage space in 4 drawers and numerous lockers, a large refrigerator freezer with top access, and gimballed two burner Propane stove with oven.

Opposite to port is the Nav. Station and Head with Stall Shower. The Navigation Station is aft facing and includes all of the vessel's navigation electronics as well as her electrical distribution system. There is chart stowage under the flip-up chart table top and three drawers. Furuno GPS not in service

The Head is ample providing plenty of elbow room and features a stall shower with a seat, separate sump and sump pump aft, good counter and stowage space, stainless steel sink with H&C pressure water.

Aft of the Galley is the Aft Stateroom featuring a large double berth with bin-type stowage under. Above the berth the hull is sheathed with ash ceilings and a teak stowage shelf, just forward and outboard is a small bureau and a hanging locker.

The interior, like the rest of this Sabre 362, has been fastidiously maintained and shows much newer than her age.

Additional

A two-owner boat, this Sabre 362 enjoyed wonderful care along with light use. For those seeking a contemporary performance cruising yacht, she should be seriously considered.

A quick note on centerboard boats, Often less knowledgeable buyers will rule out a boat because it has a centerboard (one more thing to maintain, though taken to an extreme that would leave you with a boat equipped with a hand pump and a bucket for amenities!). That said, a centerboard provides for a wide range of balance control of the yacht. Often when sailing the helm becomes heavy even with the traveler eased, but is not yet overpowered, simply raising the centerboard 5% moves the center of lateral resistance aft quite a bit thereby balancing the helm and leaving the boat powered up while the wing keel or fin keel boat only has the option of reefing while you sail by! The centerboard is only necessary when sailing reasonably close to hard on the wind so whetted surface is reduced at all other times.

  • Folding cockpit table
  • Folding salon table
  • New Thurston dodger with leather hand grips

Construction

As reported in Spin Sheet magazine:

The construction of the 362’s hull is hand-laminated fiberglass with balsa wood coring. The decks, cockpit, and cabin are hand laminated as a single unit with fiberglass, balsa, and marine-grade plywood. The hull and deck are joined at an internal flange with adhesive sealants and bolts on six-inch centers.

The quality of Sabre’s construction is first-rate throughout, but what appeals to me most is that Sabre remains one of the few production boatbuilders that minimizes its use of fiberglass liners and modules. Instead, bulkheads and joiner work are attached with fiberglass tabs directly to the hull; thus, becoming an integral part of the structure. When properly done, both methods of the construction result in strong boats, but the less a builder relies on fiberglass liners and pans, the better the access for inspection, repairs, and service.
