Every decade or so a yacht is designed that is extraordinarily successful by all measures. Lines and proportion are wonderfully pleasing, while at the same time highly functional. Aesthetic attraction is universal, performance is exemplary, and the ideal balance between subjective and objective qualities are achieved. One design having all these qualities is rare and it invariably becomes a classic by which others are measured. In the highly specialized world of oceangoing recreational power boats, the Nordhavn 46 has achieved legendary status of a modern day classic.

Not built to dock in a marina, the Nordhavn 46 can, and will, take you anywhere you wish to venture. Owner’s know their Nordhavn 46 can take them across the bay, down the coast, through the canal and across the stream. Several have taken the journey across oceans with little fanfare.

The Lugger single engine is considered to have an engine life expectancy of over 20,000 hours. Nordhavn has been cruising the world and there has never been a reported incident of a main engine failure causing serious concern. The new (2021) Yanmar wing engine has its own transmission, shaft, and folding propeller capable of pushing the boat at 3-4 knots. Adequate “get home” engine by any measure.

Do not miss this Nordhavn 46. She is ready to leave tomorrow for new adventures. No disappointments. Well cared for by a fastidious owner, his change of plans dictates the sale.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

You can step onto the Nordhavn 46 through the transom door or through the port or side access doors. Once into the cockpit you are protected by the extended upper deck which also protects the starboard side companionway. The cockpit is large with cockpit helm controls along the forward aspect of the starboard side. There are raw and fresh water washdown faucets and access into the main cabin through a sliding door.

Along the starboard side deck and up a few steps you enter the Portuguese bridge. The pilot house has access through sliding port and starboard doors. Along the starboard side is the door onto the bow deck. The deck has as storage box as well as access to the anchors and anchor locker. A raw and fresh water washdown are on the port deck and the anchor windlass foot controls are to starboard. Back on the Portuguese bridge and along the port side, just past the pilothouse door are steps onto the upper deck. The upper deck is large and offers another storage box to port and the RIB mounted on chocks to starboard. The mast boom has an electric winch to assist in launching and recovering the RIB. Aft is a lifeline boarding gate for easier use of the boom. Up a few steps you’re on top of the pilothouse. There is an array, or eight solar panels mounted in the top, capable of 800 watts of power. The mast fold in half allowing some easier passage through bridges.

Through either pilothouse door is the pilothouse. Roomy and comfortable the Captain and crew have excellent visibility around the vessel. The typical “flip up” chair has been replaced by a mounted and adjustable STIDD helm chair. All electronics and engine controls and gauges are within easy reach. Behind the helm is a long settee with storage under the footrest. Above the settee is the watchman berth. There is ample charting space and plenty of cabinets and drawer storage.

Down a few steps you enter the lower cabin area. To port is the guest cabin or office. The berth is offset to port and can be extended into a double berth. Above is “roller” berth neatly hidden in a cabinet space. Simply roll out the cloth berth and attach the roller into the stainless steel holders fore and aft and you have an added single berth. Inboard is an office desk with mounted stool. There are cabinets, drawers, and a hanging locker. Aft is the watertight door into the engine room.

In the companionway across from the guest stateroom is the day use and guest head. Separate shower stall with seat, vanity with storage and a VacuFlush head. Plenty of room and comfortable

In the companionway further forward and to port is the laundry cabinet with separate washer and dryer. Across is the master head. A mirror image of the guest head the head features a separate shower stall with seat, vanity with sink and storage and a VacuFlush head.

All the way forward and up a few steps is the master stateroom. For overall stability the Nordhavn 46 benefits from over 4,800 pounds of ballast in the keel. With the Naiad stabilizers the 46 can cross any ocean. Directional stability is enhanced by its full length keel, and, with the help of the slightly tucked-in stern, the 46 rides down swells as if on rails.
